Walking and Talking is a roaming literary salon — a project that weaves poetry, history, and human stories into the landscapes that hold them. We move slowly through cities and hills, opening books in the places they were written, and listening for the voices the stones remember.
Each walk is composed like an essay — chapters of place, paragraphs of memory, footnotes etched in stone. Whether you join us in Hebrew or in English, the invitation is the same: to step inside the page.

Who is the Michael whom Miriam awaited? Where did Rachel walk into the fading sunset? We will meet the women poets with their despair, madness, hope and love. The story of Else Lasker-Schüler, Rachel and Zelda, Miriam Yalan-Shteklis, Leah Goldberg and Yona Wallach. The modest neighborhoods of Rehavia and Sha'arei Hesed are the stage on which their lives are set — the houses they lived in, the homes of their closest friends, the men they loved, the alleys and gardens where the poems were written that became cornerstones of Hebrew culture.

Natan Alterman was the greatest of the city of Tel Aviv's lovers. As a child born and raised alongside her, he grew at her side and recorded every moment, every color and taste. In the cafés where he wrote, on the nightly walks with friends along the road that opens up again the length of it, the men and women in his life, and the last poem that still echoes in our lives in this land.

בין גבעות כורכר וחאמרה, בין חולדה לצפון הנגב פרוסים נופי חייו של הסופר יזהר סמילנסקי. אגדות וחלומות בפרדסים, ילד מרחף בין צמרות העצים למדפי הספרים. קרבות מלחמת השחרור והקרב להצלת פרחי הבר, החרדונים והנמלים. נסייר בחצר חולדה, יער בן שמן ורחובות ובסוף הסיור נבקר גם ליד ביתו האחרון של ס. יזהר מול הנוף שכל כך אהב ונכיר את חבריו שעדיין עומדים כאן על המשמרת.
Between kurkar hills and hamra soil, between Hulda and the northern Negev, lie spread the landscapes of the writer Yizhar Smilansky's life. Legends and dreams in the orchards, a child floating between the treetops and the bookshelves. The battles of the War of Independence and the battle to save the wildflowers, the agamas and the ants. We will tour the courtyard of Hulda, the Ben Shemen forest and Rehovot, and at the end of the tour we will also visit the last home of S. Yizhar facing the landscape he so loved, and meet his friends who still stand watch here.

אפשר כבר לסכם: ״המקום שכולם רצו להגיע אליו, אך רק מעטים הצליחו״. סיפור המתיישבים ברמת הגולן והחלום להתיישב מעבר לירדן. מימי העלייה הראשונה לחלומות בני העלייה השנייה והשלישית על יישוב החוראן, וארי שואג מתבונן מזרחה בעצב מחכה ליום פקודה. המושבה גולן בבשן, מושבות הברון בסוריה, יישוב אחד על שפת הכינרת וסיום אל מול גולן, באחוזה פורייה, לצד קברו של אחד החולמים אחר השמש ושיר של משורר התקווה הממתין בעיר מקלט לגאולת העם.
We may already sum it up: "The place everyone wanted to reach, but only a few succeeded." The story of the settlers on the Golan Heights and the dream of settling beyond the Jordan. From the days of the First Aliyah to the dreams of the Second and Third Aliyah youth about settling the Hauran, and a roaring lion gazing eastward in sorrow, waiting for the day of orders. The colony of Golan in the Bashan, the Baron's colonies in Syria, one settlement on the shore of the Kinneret, and ending opposite the Golan, at the fertile estate, beside the grave of one of those who chased the sun, and a poem of the poet of Hatikvah waiting in a city of refuge for the redemption of the people.

״יא חלילי יא עמלי״ שרו ברחובות המושבה שהייתה כור היתוך לאינספור סיפורים מימי ההתיישבות הראשונים. הגדולה במושבות הדרום שבה נרקמו אגדות ומיתוסים — רבנים, משוררים וסופרים בחרו ברחובות. בתי ראשונים יפהפיים, סיפורי אהבה וגבורה, חתונה אחת שכמותה לא ראה היישוב היהודי, שכונת תימנים, גואלי קרקעות ותאריך אחד שחרץ גורלות.
Ya Halili, Ya Amali — they sang in the streets of the moshava that became a crucible for the stories of the early settlement. The largest of the southern colonies, where rabbis, poets and novelists chose to live. A wedding the Yishuv had never seen, the Yemenite quarter, mythic land redeemers and a single date that decided fates.

"Between Beit Alfa and Nahalal" the dream of settling the valley was born, and the first settlers — strange people — sketched a circle, and to this day they begin the circle at Gerber and end at Mekler. We will wander inside the circle among memorial corners, gardens, a synagogue and a historic slik. In the hora of Nahalal we will travel between the stories of Meir Shalev and the songs of Yonatan Geffen, and between Givat Oded and the water tower.

״אין כבר דרך חזרה״ — שנים רבות חלפו מאז הלילה בו עלו תשעת הבילוי״ם לקרקע בגדרה. נצא בעקבותיהם ונספר במעללי אותה קבוצת סטודנטים צעירים, מה ספרו עליהם ומה כתבו הם על עצמם לימים. איך התחיל הכל בגלל ״מסמר״ קטן, מה היה החלום שדחף אותם אל ארץ שממה ובליל חורף אל בור באדמת המולדת באגדת נר שני של חנוכה.
"There is no way back now" — many years have passed since the night the nine Bilu'im went up onto the land at Gedera. We will set out in their footsteps and tell of the deeds of that group of young students, what was said about them and what they later wrote about themselves. How it all started because of a small "nail," what was the dream that pushed them toward a desolate land and, on a winter night, to a pit in the soil of the homeland in the legend of the second candle of Hanukkah.

נהר מתפתל ולוחש אגדות, שירים וסיפורים, נטייל בין גדותיו ונדע חמדה שלא הייתה כמוה. בחצי אי הירקון נולדו חלומות רבים, עשויים מבצק: מכבייה לעם היהודי, יריד עם גמל מעופף, תערוכות, שדות תעופה ונמל בעיר שהחליטה לעשות קפיצה קטנה לחו״ל. הסיור מתחיל בשפך הירקון ומסתיים בחוף ״מציצים״.
A winding river whispering legends, songs and stories — we will walk along its banks and know a delight unlike any other. On the Yarkon peninsula many dreams were born, made of dough: a Maccabiah for the Jewish people, a fair with a flying camel, exhibitions, airfields and a port in a city that decided to take a small jump abroad. The tour begins at the mouth of the Yarkon and ends at "Metzitzim" beach.

״שקט בבקשה״ — העלייה החמישית בשנות השלושים הביאה לארץ עשרות אלפי עולים חדשים מגרמניה. רבים מהם התיישבו בתל אביב, בבן יהודה שטראסה, והעיר העברית שינתה פניה — במאכלים, תלבושות ושקט בין שתיים לארבע. סיפור העולים הייקים הוא גם סיפורה של התזמורת הפילהרמונית. נטייל ברחובות הצפון הישן של תל אביב עם רביעית רוזנדורף ונספר על סיפור ההצלה המופלא של נגני התזמורת וההופעה הראשונה.
"Quiet, please" — the Fifth Aliyah in the 1930s brought tens of thousands of new immigrants from Germany. Many of them settled in Tel Aviv, on Ben Yehuda Strasse, and the Hebrew city changed its face — in foods, in clothing, and in quiet between two and four. The story of the Yekke immigrants is also the story of the Philharmonic Orchestra. We will walk the streets of old north Tel Aviv with the Rosendorf Quartet and tell the marvelous rescue story of the orchestra's musicians and their first performance.

A city fair of days and full of life is Jaffa. On a journey rich in sounds and smells we will walk on the paths of the history of one of the oldest cities in the world. From the flea market and the clock, in the alleys of the Old City and down to the port, on a musical tour. Between the Great Plot and the historic port we will search for the gates of the ancient city and peek into the gate of the Old City. We will tell of Jonah fleeing to Tarshish and dreams of becoming a Hollywood-style movie city.

A walk in Jerusalem with the poems of Yehuda Amichai, in the landscapes of Israeli and Jewish memory, from the songs of the Palmach and the British army to a song the Levites used to sing in the Temple. For many years Yehuda Amichai lived in a divided city — "because the border is near and we are forbidden there" — and the landscapes of the tour are at the edge of the field, between two points on one straight line.

טיול ב״נחלאות״ וב״זיכרונות״ שם גרו עשרות שנים בני משפחת בנאי ״משפחת קנדי של ישראל״. הנופים, המראות, הריחות, השוק והאנשים שעליהם נכתבו הסיפורים, השירים והמערכונים המוכרים כל-כך. חארת אל טאנק, שכונת שבת אחים וכמובן רחוב האגס ששינה שמו לרחוב בנאי.
A walk in "Nachla'ot" and in "Zikhronot," where for decades the members of the Banai family — "the Kennedy family of Israel" — lived. The landscapes, the sights, the smells, the market and the people about whom the stories, songs and sketches we know so well were written. Harat al-Tank, the Shevet Achim quarter, and of course Rehov HaAgas (Pear Street) which changed its name to Rehov Banai.
